Foundational overview

Our vision, mission and goal

Our vision

A society where every child, youth, woman and vulnerable household has the opportunity to live a healthy, educated, dignified and economically empowered life.

Our mission

To empower vulnerable communities through sustainable interventions in education, health, livelihoods, child protection, humanitarian assistance, and advocacy by building strategic partnerships that transform lives.

Our goal

To improve the socio-economic well-being of vulnerable children, youth, women and communities through integrated, sustainable and community-led development programmes.

Overview

My Helping Hands Foundation is a registered Non-Governmental Organization as of 2020, but has been functioning for quite a long time now. The Organization was founded by Joshua Lungu with a primary objective of transforming children's lives through education support.

Project rationale

There is a lot of scope that needs to be addressed, especially in the remote areas of Western Province. Static records show so many kids in remote areas are usually unable to properly complete their education due to lack of educational support and sponsorship. With that record, My Helping Hands Foundation was birthed to eradicate, or at least reduce, the level of children dropping out due to lack of educational support.

Our concept

The future is a great danger to an uneducated child. Many have failed in life because they were never given a chance at education like any other child. Many ended up in the streets, involved in sex work, or as common criminals. Their lives have had an impact on fueling HIV and crime. The vicious cycle of poverty can only be broken if we build the base of the future now by providing an opportunity for vulnerable children, too.

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

Educational Journey:

Joshua's journey began with a strong foundation in social work and development practices, earning his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Africa in 2020. He furthered his expertise with a focus on community development at HIGHCOM Institute of Health Sciences in 2012. Committed to continuous learning, he obtained certificates in First Aid Psychosocial Counseling and Disability Accelerator from Save the Children.

Joshua's professional journey is a testament to his versatility and commitment to social causes. As a District Coordinator at Restless Development Zambia, he plays a pivotal role in operational planning, program monitoring and evaluation, and implementing capacity-building programs. His stint as a Project Officer at Save the Children Zambia involved coordinating clinical activities, QA/QI systems, and logistics management for healthcare facilities.

Sponsor a School, Change a Life:

Joshua's impactful role as Sponsor a School Coordinator at Mary's Meals Zambia showcases his ability to mobilize resources for a noble cause. Coordinating clinical activities, training, and logistics management, he contributed significantly to improving healthcare services in supported facilities.

In his role as District Advocacy and Livelihood Coordinator at Zambia Interfaith Networking Organisations, Joshua focused on behavioral change advocacy, fostering partnerships, and empathizing with diverse groups of people. His dedication to addressing HIV issues and empowering communities is evident in his comprehensive approach.

Founding My Helping Hand Foundation:

The culmination of Joshua's experiences and passion led to the establishment of My Helping Hand Foundation in 2020. The foundation swiftly became a force for positive change in Zambia, addressing crucial issues such as education, disaster relief, and livelihood empowerment.

From distributing school uniforms at Mutwiwambwa Primary School to rebuilding a school in Sioma after a fire, the foundation exemplifies effective disaster relief. Distribution of pens and books in Kalabo District, warm clothes for street children in Mongu Town, and disaster relief efforts in Malawi after Cyclone Freddie are testaments to the foundation's commitment to diverse interventions.

Innovative Initiatives:

The foundation's innovative approach includes supporting local barbershops, conducting "barbershop pep talks," and introducing hygienic barbing gowns to ensure client safety and hygiene. Easter street children donations and celebrations in Chipata further reflect their commitment to fostering care and unity within the community.

A Future Focused on Impact:

Joshua Lungu's journey is far from over. His pursuit of a Master's degree in Project Management demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement. As My Helping Hand Foundation partners with the Cotton Board of Zambia for community agriculture empowerment, Joshua envisions a future where out-of-school youth contribute to sustainable development, reducing poverty and hunger.

A boy or girl in need of educational supplies, who dares to dream again.

Your trust in us translates into restored dignity, opened doors, and empowered futures.

We are not just changing stories—we are rewriting destinies.
